In case you wish to ditch Thailand and Bali for an offbeat Asian beachside experience, we would suggest you to head towards the Maldives and indulge in the goodness of tranquility. A perfect tour spanning over 8 days, you'll get to hop across different islands. It'll be an amazing experience to explore the tropical beaches and its natural beauty and to gain an insight into the culture and tradition of Maldivian life. This tour provides the opportunity to combine local island life with watersports, dolphin spotting and a perfect blend of relaxation that you are probably seeking. Travel to these islands and stay in local guesthouses, visit family homes, mosques and boat yards, along with scuba diving and snorkeling - allowing you to discover the underwater beauty of the Maldives.
Note: The Maldives is a Muslim country and therefore alcohol is not available on local islands. Subject to availability day/evening visits to resorts can be arranged. Revealing clothes are also not allowed to be worn on local islands and public beaches; however, most of our guest houses offer private gardens or private beach areas for guests.
Day 1 - Arrival in Male
You'll be arriving at Male International Airport, where you will be greeted by the country coordinator and transferred to your guesthouse on Hulhumale. Take some rest after the long flight before setting out to explore this tropical urban paradise.
Day 2 - Travel to the island of Guraidhoo
Today morning, your guide will accompany you on a tour of the capital city before transferring by local ferry to the local island of Guraidhoo, South Male. You'll get to visit the fish market and the local market, President's Palace, Sultan Park and Friday Mosque. Stop for lunch at one of the many restaurants overlooking the waterfront before boarding the afternoon ferry. After returning back, you can head to the beaches to soak in the sun or chill in the garden of your guesthouse. Tonight, you'll be heading for dinner with a local family - it's gonna be a traditional thing, without forks and knives!
Day 3 - Explore the Coral Reefs of Maldives
After breakfast, you will be taken by a speedboat to the nearby coral reefs for your first underwater encounter! The coral reefs of the Maldives are inhabited by diverse marine life and are teaming with colorful fish and corals. Keep your eyes open for turtles, sharks and rays - you never know what may be in the blue! On return to Guraidhoo, the afternoon is free for you to participate in optional watersports, diving or surfing. This evening, you'll get to enjoy a relaxed beach BBQ dinner.
Day 4 - Visiting the local community in Guraidhoo
You'll be having breakfast with a local family today, just to get an insight into their lives and get to know more about their culture. You will then have free time at your leisure to relax on the beach, soak in the sun and get tanned or enjoy optional watersport activities. In the afternoon, you'll head out to explore Guraidhoo with the opportunity to learn about the local way of life including a visit to the Mosque, the boatyard and learn how the common wooden boat - popular as a ‘dhoni’ is built. You can, of course, have some fun time with the local kids in the community, playing with them and clicking their photographs! Make sure to stop by a local cafe to sample traditional ‘hedika’ - Maldivian savory and sweet short eats served with black tea.
Day 5 - Explore the island of Maafushi
Today, breakfast will be served early and then you'll be traveling by ferry to a local island of Maafushi, just 20 minutes away. After checking into the guesthouse, you will have the chance to once again enjoy the underwater beauty of the Maldives. We stop at a sandbank for lunch, where you can also take some rest on the beach and enjoy the laid back ambiance. After heading back to Maafushi, we will set out on a cruise in search of dolphins. Tonight, you'll get to enjoy local dinner at the guesthouse.
Day 6 - Free Day in Maafushi
Since there's a lot to do in Maafushi, you can choose what you feel like doing today! We leave it to you to decide, and you can either stroll on the beaches, or go for diving! There are numerous options for watersports - so you can opt for anything (available for an extra cost).
Day 7 - Exploring the island of Gulhi
Following an early breakfast, we'll take a short 20-minutes public ferry to the pristine local island of Gulhi. Our local guide will take you for an island exploration. Visit the boatyard to stand in awe at the size of the boats under renovation, chat with the ladies sweeping the streets and finally refresh yourself with a cool Kurumba (coconut). Later, you can choose to go for snorkeling or relax at the guesthouse/ beach. Tonight, you'll be having dinner at the guesthouse.
Day 8 - Depart from Male
After breakfast, we'll be taking a ferry back to Male. You can book your returning flights in the afternoon. Airport transfer can be arranged by us at an extra cost.
