If you are seeking a retreat during your gap year, then it would be a great idea to escape to nature's lap in Borneo and trek up the mountains for a perfect view of the world below! Set out for this 11-day adventure through some of the most beautiful naturescapes anywhere in the world and soak yourself in the freshness that the place has to offer. Explore the picturesque caves of Gunung Mulu National Park and trek to the Mud Volcano as well. Meet adventurous souls from different parts of the world during this journey and who knows, probably you'll discover a new you by the time the trip ends!
Day 1 - Arrival in Kota Kinabalu
Welcome to Malaysia! You can book a flight directly to Kota Kinabalu International Airport or a connecting flight from Kuala Lumpur, whichever suits you best. Once you reach Kota Kinabalu, you can head straight to the hotel and take some rest. You can also head out to explore the nearby places on your own. In the evening, there will be a Welcome Meeting, so make sure to be back by then.
Day 2 - 4 Hiking to Mt. Kinabalu
The amazing adventure trip begins as you'll be heading out for hiking on the nature trails. Enjoy an excursion to Poring hot springs and a canopy walk on the first day, as we stop at the base of Mt. Kinabalu. On the second day, climb to Laban Rata, enjoy a packed lunch on the way. Spend the night at Laban Rata in basic mountain huts 3,272m (10,735 ft) above sea level. On the final day, you'll start to ascend the summit, which will take nearly 5 hours.After spend sometime at the summit, you'll come down to the base, and then transferred back to Kota Kinabalu.
Day 5 - Kota Kinabalu to Gunung Mulu National Park
You'll be taking a short flight to Miri and then to Mulu. Once you reach, head into the park for a walk through the forest and explore Deer Cave. In the evening go on a walk in search of bats hunting for insects.
Day 6 - Gunung Mulu National Park
Board a longboat and travel along the Melinau River to explore the caves and the rain forests. Nature and its beauty will completely soothe your senses and you'll be left mesmerized with all that you'll see and feel. Post lunch, you'll continue by longboat to Kuala Litut and start the trek through dense jungle to Camp 5, your stop for the night.
Day 7 - Exploring the Headhunters Trail and Journey to Limbang
The Headhunters Trail is an 11 kilometer trail through Borneo's dense jungle on which you'll be hiking today.On your way, you'll hear the sounds of thousands of species and spot a few as well, and also listen to tales of the warring parties who invented this trail. Finally, you'll reach Kuala Terikan, from where you will board a boat down the river to Limbang.
Day 8 - Limbang to Pulau Tiga
Today, you'll have to start early by ferry, boat, and then private vehicle to reach the tropical island of Pulau Tiga. Set out for the Mud Volcano Trek once you reach Palau Tiga, and know more about Survivor Island.
Day 9 - Pulau Tiga
It's your free day to explore Palau Tiga. You can opt to go snorkeling, kayaking, or visit Snake Island.
Day 10 - Pulau Tiga to Kota Kinabalu
As the trip comes to its last leg, it's time for you to return back to Kota Kinabalu. You can head out to explore the markets and binge at a local restaurant today, with your fellow travelers.
Day 11 - Depart from Kota Kinabalu
The fun filled trip comes to an end, and it's time for you to bid goodbye to everyone and fly back home or towards the next destination. You can seek help from the coordinator in case you need airport drop.

A variety of styles of hotels/guesthouses are used in Malaysia. In many instances they might not be like what you are used to back home. In some areas we stay in simple local guesthouses in stunning locations - rooms are small and basic and there may only be shared toilet facilities and showers. Service and efficiency can also vary.

Eating is a big part of travelling. Travelling with Go Discover Abroad you experience the vast array of wonderful food that is available out in the world. Generally meals are not included in the trip price when there is a choice of eating options, to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat. It also gives you more budgeting flexibility, though generally food is cheap. Our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though. Your CEO will be able to suggest favourite restaurants during your trip. Included breakfasts will usually be asian style consisting of noodles or congee (rice porridge) or bread and eggs. Vegetarians will be able to find a range of different foods, although in some areas the choice maybe limited. While trekking in remote regions food is included, plentiful and made of fresh local ingredients.
