Floating Market Tour & China Town
Having now been replaced by supermarkets and shopping malls, Thailand's remaining floating markets are an enduring symbol of what life was like in days gone by. The popular floating market in Bangkok is one of Thailand’s oldest. Sellers arrive early in their boats laden with tropical fruits, flowers and other fresh produce, creating an exuberant and vividly colourful scene that has been captured by photographers the world over. After we have eaten and shopped we will take a tour through Bangkok's China town which is rife with colour and atmosphere. China Town, also called 'Yaowarat' district is one of the oldest parts of Bangkok as Chinese merchants were originally moved to this area in the early 1780's when Bangkok was founded. There are many alleys that are full of shops selling all types of merchandise so be sure to have your camera ready.

Late check-out followed by a transfer to Ayutthaya – Thailand’s ancient capital. This historic city was the trade center for a prosperous rice-growing region and the capital of a Thai kingdom founded c.1350. Destroyed by the Burmese in 1559, it was rebuilt by the Siamese in the late 16th century. but was again devastated by the Burmese in 1767, after which the capital was moved to Thon Buri and then to Bangkok. Ayutthaya has some of the few monuments of early Siamese civilization, notably the royal palace and numerous temples and pagodas which we shall venture through tomorrow.
